About Yvonne: Having completed her BA (law) and LLB at Stellenbosch University and a diploma in International Law at Antwerp University, Yvonne joined Bowman Gilfillan Inc in Cape Town as a candidate attorney. After concluding her articles, she was admitted as an attorney in the Cape High Court. Later that year she was admitted as an advocate, and went on to undertake her pupilage at the Cape Bar, where she practised until taking  time off to have children. During her time away from practice, she taught and assessed at UCT’s law faculty, completed a Masters degree in commercial law and tax at UCT, and qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales. Yvonne enjoys ongoing involvement as an external examiner at UCT’s law faculty for its final year Integrated Assessment Project.

Yvonne has, over time, become increasingly concerned about the rising cost of legal services. She believes that, whilst the large firms offer a good quality of service, their overheads make it almost impossible to keep their fees at a level that is affordable. As a result, many businesses either cannot or will not seek assistance from them. Yvonne also noticed that a number of experienced attorneys seek alternatives to the pressurised and less flexible environments offered by the large firms, and wish to continue to work at the same level, but with flexibility and autonomy. Yvonne founded Caveat in 2011 to address these two needs, and its management team strives for excellence in providing a good fit between its clients and panel members.

About Carine: Having completed her BCom (law) and LLB at Stellenbosch University, Carine joined Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg as a candidate attorney. After concluding her articles, she was admitted as an attorney in the North Gauteng High Court. That same year she commenced her MBA at the University of Western Australia, which she achieved with distinction. On returning home, Carine joined Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs and subsequently took up an in-house legal position within the capital markets.

Carine’s belief in the founding principles and unique vision for the legal services provided by Caveat led her to join the team in 2014.
